Surface Command Asset Retention

Anyone how long Surface Command keeps old assets? We can’t image anything right now because if we do we go over our license count, and it doesn’t look like you can even delete anything.

Yes, Surface Command will remove any record that is no longer present from the source connector upon next connector ingest.

So, it should only be “until the next time the connector ingest is ran”.

From your question, the real issue might be specific to a certain connector which continues to feed the asset you are expecting to have aged out.

Hi Marty,

Thank you for this answer. Can you link where you got this information from? We might be encountering a similar issue and I want to provide similar information to provide context/a solution.

I work in Surface Command engineering, so I know that’s how it works - perhaps not as useful as a link I’m afraid.

The system deletes items that are not longer given to us from the import feed. So look for:

  • Feed not scheduled / not working (perhaps it just has not got refreshed)
  • Source continuing to give information about the item that we’re expecting to have been removed

Those are the only reasons for keeping it around that I can think of. If you have a specific case, you might find that the support team can help diagnose.
