Renaming assets

Hello all,

How does Rapid7 handle the re-naming of domain joined PCs. Meaning , I have laptop named PCABBA used by John, he turns in his laptop when he quits and we rename it to PCACDC and issue it to Jane. nothing else was done aside from removing Johns profile and updating the PC. How is Rapid7 going to address this computer name change?, and how should it show up in IDR and IVM?

I ask because I have several PCs that have been re-purposed and renamed to different departments, yet still show up in the system with the old name, yet being used by the new department personnel.

Have you deleted the Asset Record completely and let it re-scan?

I’ve had mixed results, If I delete it and let it check back in on it’s own it may or may not show up with the new name, same result if I delete it and then do a scan using the IP as the target. Everything for that renamed device will appear as normal in a day or so, just didn’t think that was the norm. it also make’s it difficult when it is a hit or miss kind of problem.
