I am currently evaluating the insight connect and am unsure how plugins work. I installed the plugins using an API key, but I’m not sure how to incorporate them into a workflow to automate the tasks.

I am curious what plugins you are utilizing, and what you are trying to accomplish? The list of items that a plugin can do are found within the plugin documentation page.
Tutorials to learn how to use the workflow builder and actually put the plugins to use can be found at the bottom right of your screen when you are in InsightConnect as seen in the screenshot below.
