Console activation failed. Check your network connection and verify that you've entered the correct pairing key

I am getting this error “Console activation failed. Check your network connection and verify that you’ve entered the correct pairing key.” while pairing insight platform with security console

Are you running a proxy in your environment? We had a similar issue running InsightVM on Ubuntu Server. We found that InsightVM wasn’t using the system proxy settings. We had to define the proxy in the configuration within InsightVM, and then we were able to activate.

I have a same issue. I do not use any PROXY server, but I still can’t activate via pairing key…
Did anyone solved this?

Hi everyone.

The issue may be that the server where InsightVM is installed cannot connect to the Rapid7 URL: updates.rapid7.com. It could be due to a DNS configuration problem. You can run telnet to check connectivity to updates.rapid7.com. The fix is to set the nameserver to 8.8.8.8 in /etc/resolv.conf. After that, try adding the Rapid7 license again.

Couple of things you can check.

  • Check the firewall logs, make sure traffic isnt being block
  • Check the endpoint firewall, make sure traffic is being allowed out
  • Check for SSL decryption on the firewall, if its enabled, exclude the Rapid7 URLs from that server at least.
  • If you deploy the insight agent to do scans, you will need to make sure that SSL decryption for the Rapid7 URLs for the agent checkin are also excluded.
